I finally gave in to the adverts… and ended up on a snack-filled adventure through Hungary.
There are two types of people in this world: those who can scroll past a tempting subscription box advert without a second thought, and those who immediately start calculating whether they can justify another monthly treat.
Unfortunately for my bank account, I fall firmly into the second category.
If you’ve been following Between the Pages & Pixels for a while, you’ll already know that I absolutely love a good mystery unboxing. Whether it’s books, stationery, collectibles, or food, there’s something incredibly exciting about not knowing exactly what’s waiting inside until the moment you open the box. So when SnackVerse adverts started appearing on my social media feeds every five minutes, it was only a matter of time before curiosity won.
SnackVerse is a monthly subscription box that takes subscribers on a culinary journey around the world. Each month focuses on a different country, delivering a selection of authentic snacks, sweets, savoury treats and drinks alongside a detailed booklet packed with information about the featured destination. Rather than simply receiving food, you’re getting a miniature travel experience delivered straight to your doorstep.
The subscription is available in three sizes: the Mini Box, the Original Box, and the Premium Box. Since I knew my OH would happily help me taste-test everything, I skipped straight to the Premium Box (£23.99), which includes the largest snack selection and multiple drinks. If we were doing this adventure, we were doing it properly.
When June’s box arrived and I discovered our destination was Hungary, I couldn’t wait to dive in.
🇭🇺 Destination: Hungary
I’ll be completely honest — Hungary isn’t a country I know a huge amount about. Beyond Budapest, paprika, and goulash, my knowledge was fairly limited. That’s one of the things I immediately loved about this box. It introduces you to places you might never have actively chosen yourself.
The box itself felt surprisingly heavy, and opening it revealed a colourful collection of snacks alongside a beautifully designed booklet that turned out to be far more than a simple product guide.

📖 The Booklet: More Than Just a Snack Guide
One of the biggest surprises was the booklet itself. Rather than simply listing the snacks, it genuinely felt like a miniature travel magazine.
Fun Facts About Hungary

The first pages were packed with fascinating facts about Hungary. I learned that the country has over 1,300 thermal springs, celebrates official name days alongside birthdays, and even has a Children’s Railway run by children under adult supervision.
My favourite tidbit? Just how important paprika is in Hungary. It’s not just a spice—it’s practically a national treasure.
A Journey Through Hungarian Food

The next section explored Hungarian food culture and instantly made me hungry.
Traditional dishes highlighted included Goulash, Chicken Paprikash, Stuffed Cabbage, Lángos, Hortobágyi Palacsinta, Töltött Paprika and Somlói Galuska. The overall theme seemed to be hearty comfort food packed with flavour and designed to bring people together around the table.
Reading through this section felt a little like browsing a holiday food guide and making a mental list of everything you’d want to try.
Recipe Spotlight

One of my favourite additions was a full recipe for Authentic Chicken Paprikash.
As somebody who enjoys cooking and baking, this instantly elevated the box beyond simply being a collection of snacks. Including an authentic recipe felt like an invitation to bring a little piece of Hungary into your own kitchen.
Travel Inspiration

The travel section covered famous destinations including Budapest, Eger, Pécs, Lake Balaton, and the Tokaj wine region.
By the time I’d finished reading about thermal baths, Danube cruises, fairy-tale villages, and underground cave systems, I found myself adding Budapest to my ever-growing travel wish list.
Learn the Language

One of the booklet spreads focused on introducing readers to a handful of useful Hungarian phrases. While I’m not convinced I’ll be confidently chatting away in Hungarian anytime soon, it was a fun addition that made the whole experience feel a little more immersive.
Simple greetings, everyday expressions, and useful travel phrases were included, giving a small glimpse into the language and encouraging readers to engage with the country beyond just its food. I always appreciate little touches like this because they help transform the box from a snack subscription into a genuine cultural experience.
Alongside the language section was a short History & Culture Quiz that tested everything you’d learned throughout the booklet. It was a fun way to see how much information had actually sunk in while flipping through the pages and gave the whole experience a slightly interactive feel.
Rather than simply reading facts and moving on, it encouraged you to pay attention and really engage with the country being featured.
Fun Extras

The final pages included a Hungarian-themed word search and a detailed colouring page featuring famous landmarks and cultural symbols.
It’s such a simple addition, but it really reinforces the feeling that SnackVerse wants you to explore a country rather than simply eat your way through it.
📦 What’s Included This Month?

The booklet doesn’t just tell you what’s included in the box—it also encourages you to become part of the experience.
Each snack comes with its own description, ingredient information, allergen guidance, and a fun SnackVerse-exclusive rating system called “Colour in the Rockets to Rate Your Cosmic Treats.”
The scale ranges from:
🚀 Grounded Grub – Not quite for me
🚀🚀 Mild Mission – It was okay
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour – Pretty tasty
🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight – A definite favourite
🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 Cosmic Craving – I’d happily buy this again and again
I absolutely love this little detail because it turns the booklet into more than just a guide. As we worked through the box, I found myself colouring in the rockets and keeping track of my favourites. It feels a bit like creating your own snack passport as you travel through each month’s destination.
And now for the most important part…
The taste test.
🍿 Snack Reviews
One of my favourite parts of the SnackVerse experience is that every snack feels like its own little discovery. Some were instant favourites, some were completely new flavour combinations, and a few definitely surprised me. Here’s how they all stacked up during our Hungarian snack adventure.
18 snacks and 2 drinks later, here’s how Hungary stacked up:
🥨 Savoury Snacks
Hungary clearly takes its savoury snacks seriously. From pizza-flavoured crocodiles to crisps and crunchy coated peanuts, this category delivered some of the biggest surprises in the box.

💭 My Honest Review
think this might be the snack that taught me a valuable lesson about judging a flavour solely by its packaging.
When I spotted pizza-flavoured crocodile-shaped snacks, I had high hopes. Pizza flavour usually feels like a fairly safe bet, and honestly, the crocodile shape immediately won me over.

Unfortunately, the flavour wasn’t quite what I expected. Rather than tasting strongly of pizza, the overwhelming flavour for me was basil. And not a subtle hint of basil either — it was the first thing I noticed and it completely dominated the snack. As someone who was expecting cheesy, tomato-y pizza vibes, it felt a little off-putting.
OH had a completely different complaint. While he agreed the flavour wasn’t amazing, his biggest issue was that the snacks seemed determined to glue themselves to the roof of his mouth every few bites. There was quite a lot of muttering about it throughout the taste test.
That said, I still have a soft spot for the cute crocodile design. If snacks were judged purely on appearance, these little guys would have scored much higher.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀 Mild Mission
The crocodile shape was fun, but the strong basil flavour and slightly awkward texture meant these weren’t a snack I’d rush to eat again. Not terrible, but definitely one of the more disappointing discoveries in the box.
📖 Official Description
A nostalgic favourite in Hungary, these light and crunchy com snacks are instantly recognisable thanks to their playful crocodile shape. Packed with bold pizza flavour, they combine tangy tomato, onion, garlic, and aromatic herbs for a savoury, moreish crunch. Popular with both children and adults, they are a classic choice for film nights, lunchboxes, and casual gatherings with friends.

💭 My Honest Review
Crispy coated peanuts?
Yes please.
This was one of those snacks that felt instantly familiar because we already have similar coated peanuts here in the UK. The difference was the flavour. Bacon-coated peanuts weren’t something I’d come across before, and I was curious to see how they’d compare.
Thankfully, they were really good.
The coating was crunchy, the peanut inside added a nice contrast, and the bacon flavour was savoury without being overwhelming. They’re exactly the sort of snack I’d happily reach for while watching a film or grazing through a snack table.
My only little gripe was just how hard they were. A few of them had me chewing very cautiously because they genuinely felt like they could take a chunk out of a tooth if you weren’t paying attention. They definitely aren’t a snack for careless snacking.
Still, that didn’t stop me from enjoying them. In fact, they quickly became one of the stronger savoury contenders in the box.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight
Crunchy, flavourful, and dangerously moreish. The coating was a little harder than I’d have liked, but the bacon flavour and satisfying crunch easily made up for it. I’d happily snack on these again.
📖 Official Description
A hugely popular snack in Hungary, these crunchy coated peanuts pack bold flavour and an irresistible crunch. You may receive either the fiery chilli variety or the smoky bacon version, each featuring roasted peanuts coated in a crisp, flavour-packed shell. Bursting with savoury seasoning and satisfying texture, they are a favourite choice for adventurous snack lovers.

💭 My Honest Review
These were one of those snacks that completely surprised me.
Going in, I expected a much stronger flavour. With salami being front and centre, I was preparing myself for something quite intense and possibly a little overpowering. Instead, the flavour was far more balanced than I expected.
There was definitely a savoury, meaty taste, but it wasn’t overwhelming. In fact, I found them much easier to enjoy than I’d anticipated. They felt more like a snack you’d happily reach for while watching a film rather than something that would have you immediately reaching for a drink after every handful.
That said, I don’t think I could sit and eat an entire giant bag in one go. The flavour is enjoyable, but after a while I think I’d have reached my limit. They’re the kind of snack that’s best enjoyed in smaller portions rather than mindlessly munching your way through the whole packet.
Overall, these ended up being one of the nicer surprises from the savoury selection. They weren’t quite memorable enough to become an instant favourite, but they definitely exceeded my expectations.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A pleasant surprise that delivered a balanced savoury flavour without being overpowering. Not a snack I’d binge-eat by the bagful, but one I’d happily reach for again if offered.
📖 Official Description
A popular savoury snack in Hungary, these crispy corn and wheat bites are made from lightly puffed grains for an airy, satisfying crunch. Seasoned with a rich salami flavour, they deliver a delicious blend of smoky, savoury and subtly tangy notes. Light yet full of flavour, they are an irresistibly moreish snack for any occasion.

💭 My Honest Review
This was the definition of an underdog snack.
When I first looked at the bag, I was convinced these were going to be one of those aggressively cheesy snacks that hit you with a wall of flavour the moment you open them. As someone who finds some cheese-flavoured crisps a little overpowering, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect.
I could not have been more wrong.
These turned out to be absolutely delicious. The crisps were wonderfully light and crunchy, with just the right amount of onion and cheese flavour. Nothing felt overpowering, and each handful somehow convinced me to reach for another.
Before long, both OH and I had completely demolished the bag. In fact, this was one of the first snacks in the box where we immediately looked at each other and agreed that it was going straight into contention for one of the top spots.
Sometimes the snacks you expect the least from end up being the biggest surprises, and this was definitely one of them.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀 Cosmic Craving
A perfect example of why I love trying snacks from other countries. Light, crispy, packed with flavour without being overwhelming, and impossible to stop eating. Both OH and I agreed this was one of the standout snacks in the entire box.
📖 Official Description
An absolute favourite in Hungary, these potato crisps are incredibly light, with a wonderfully airy, melt-in-the-mouth texture and a delicious burst of rich cheese and tangy onion flavour. With their delicate crunch and classic savoury taste, they are a simple yet satisfying snack that is impossible to put down.
🥨 Savoury Snack Champion
🏆 Winner – Chio Burgonyasirom Hagymás-Sajtos
This was a surprisingly tough category to judge, but these cheese and onion crisps ultimately came out on top. They delivered exactly what they promised: a satisfyingly crunchy texture, plenty of flavour, and the kind of snack that keeps you reaching back into the bag for “just one more.” While some of the other savoury snacks had interesting ideas or quirky shapes, this was the one I kept coming back to and would happily buy again without hesitation. 🧀🥔🚀
🍫 Sweet Treats
As somebody with a permanent sweet tooth, this was the section I was most excited to dive into. Some became instant favourites, while others taught me valuable lessons about my ongoing feud with jelly-filled snacks.

💭 My Honest Review
These were one of the more unusual snacks in the box because neither of us could quite agree on what they tasted like.
For me, the closest comparison is a cross between Rainbow Drops and the flavour of a Flump. They had that light, airy texture and a sweet fruity taste that instantly reminded me of childhood sweet-shop visits.
OH had a completely different take. According to him, they tasted remarkably similar to Froot Loops cereal, especially the fruity flavouring. Once he said it, I could actually see where he was coming from.
Whatever the exact flavour is supposed to be, we both agreed on one thing: they were surprisingly enjoyable. They’re the sort of snack that’s easy to keep reaching for without really thinking about it, and before you know it, half the bag has mysteriously disappeared.
They won’t be replacing my all-time favourite sweets anytime soon, but they were a fun, nostalgic little treat that brought plenty of debate to our taste test.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A light, sweet, nostalgic snack that reminded us of everything from Rainbow Drops and Flumps to Froot Loops. Fun, tasty, and very easy to snack on, even if we never quite worked out exactly what the flavour was supposed to be. 🍬✨
📖 Official Description
A deeply nostalgic treat that has been a childhood favourite in Hungary for generations. They feature light and crunchy puffed rice grains coated in a sweet, fruity aroma. Bursting with a sweet fruit flavour, they are an iconic retro snack that is perfect for enjoying by the handful.

💭 My Honest Review
Lemon-flavoured snacks and I don’t always get along, so I approached this one with a little caution.
Thankfully, the lemon flavour was much gentler than I expected. Rather than being sharp or overpowering, it added a light citrus sweetness that worked surprisingly well with the chocolate coating and crispy wafer layers inside.
OH and I split this one in half while taste-testing, and it ended up being one of those snacks that quietly grew on me as I ate it. The combination of smooth chocolate, crunchy wafer, and subtle lemon filling felt nicely balanced, with no single flavour trying to steal the spotlight.
It probably won’t convert me into a full-time lemon dessert fan, but it was a pleasant surprise and much more enjoyable than I expected it to be.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A well-balanced treat that delivered just the right amount of lemon without becoming overpowering. The crispy wafer layers added a lovely texture, making this an easy snack to enjoy from start to finish.
📖 Official Description
A delightfully zesty twist on Hungary’s favourite wafer bar, this seasonal variation brings a burst of sunshine to the classic snack. It features layers of light, ultra-crispy wafers sandwiched together with a vibrant, tangy lemon cream filling. Enveloped in a smooth coating of milk chocolate, it offers a refreshing, summery contrast of textures and flavours that has made it a modern cult favourite.

💭 My Honest Review
This was one of those snacks where I knew exactly what I was getting into… and yet somehow it still wasn’t quite what I expected.
The moment I saw it, I immediately thought, “Ah, this is basically a cereal bar.” And to be fair, that’s exactly what it turned out to be. The strawberry flavour was pleasant enough, the texture was what you’d expect, and there weren’t really any surprises along the way.
The problem is that while I can appreciate what it was trying to do, cereal bars have never been something I actively reach for. It wasn’t bad by any means—I happily finished it—but it also wasn’t a snack that left me wanting another one.
Sometimes a snack can be perfectly fine and still not be your thing, and that’s exactly where this one landed for me.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀 Mild Mission
A perfectly decent strawberry cereal bar that delivered exactly what it promised, but it didn’t do enough to win me over. Fine for a quick snack, just not something I’d actively seek out again.
📖 Official Description
Inspired by the classic Hungarian Túró Rudi, this modern snack offers a wholesome oat-based twist on a beloved favourite. It combines a soft, chewy oat bar with a sweet strawberry filling, all coated in a smooth cocoa layer. The result is a satisfying blend of fruity flavour, hearty oats, and chocolatey richness, making it a popular snack for both children and adults.

💭 My Honest Review
This was one of those snacks where my expectations and reality turned out to be two very different things.
When I read that it contained a buttercream filling, my brain immediately pictured proper cake-style buttercream — the kind I make for cakes and happily eat straight from the mixing bowl if nobody is watching.
Realistically, I knew that wasn’t going to work inside a packaged snack, but a girl can dream.
What I actually found was something much lighter and softer, more like a mousse than a traditional buttercream. It wasn’t bad at all — in fact, it was quite pleasant — it just wasn’t what I had been expecting.
The texture was probably the most interesting part. Once I’d adjusted my expectations, I found myself enjoying it more and appreciating it for what it was rather than what I’d imagined it would be.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was that it gave me ideas for my own baking. The filling had me wondering whether I could recreate something similar at home and put my own spin on it. Any snack that sends me straight into “how could I bake this?” mode deserves a little credit.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀 Mild Mission
An enjoyable snack with a light, mousse-like filling, but the description had me expecting something much closer to traditional buttercream. Nice enough to try, though it left me more inspired to create my own version than desperate to eat another one.
📖 Official Description
Invented during the communist era as a clever way to enjoy “ice cream” during Hungary’s freezing winters, this iconic retro sweet is a true nostalgic classic. It features a crisp, traditional wafer cone filled with a dense, silky-smooth chocolate buttercream. The top is dipped in a thin, crackly layer of dark chocolate, perfectly mimicking a real scoop of ice cream that won’t melt in your hand.

💭 My Honest Review
This is where the review gets slightly awkward because I never actually tasted this one.
The moment the wrapper came off, I was hit with a strong rum aroma and immediately knew it wasn’t going to be for me. If you’ve read any of my food posts before, you’ll know that rum and I are not friends. Cakes, chocolates, desserts, drinks — if rum is involved, I’m usually out.
So, in the spirit of scientific snack reviewing, I handed this one over to OH and let him conduct the taste test on my behalf.
Reader, he demolished it.
Not only did he happily eat the entire thing himself, but he’s now on a mission to find somewhere in the UK that sells them. I think that tells you everything you need to know about how much he enjoyed it.
I will also take a moment to mention the gentleman on the wrapper because I genuinely can’t decide whether he looks more like Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation or Danny Dyer during a particularly moustache-heavy phase of his career. Either way, he looks like he’d have very strong opinions about chocolate bars.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀 Grounded Grub
The rum aroma alone was enough to send me running in the opposite direction. However, judging by OH’s reaction, rum lovers may want to add this one to their shopping list immediately.
📖 Official Description
First introduced in Hungary during the 1950s, Sport Szelet has become one of the country’s most iconic chocolate bars. Recognisable by its distinctive green packaging, it features a rich cocoa fondant centre with a characteristic rum-flavoured taste, all coated in a thin layer of dark chocolate. Its nostalgic flavour and retro appeal have made it a lasting favourite for generations of Hungarians.

💭 My Honest Review
This is one of those reviews where the snack never really got a fair chance from me.
The moment I bit into one, I realised it belonged to a category of sweets that I’ve never been able to get on board with. If you’ve ever had things like Love Hearts, or those classic Swizzels double lollies, you’ll know the sort of powdery, chalky texture I’m talking about.
For some reason, my brain immediately says absolutely not.
After one bite, I knew these weren’t going any further on my personal snack journey.
Thankfully, OH was more than happy to take over quality-control duties. While I politely stepped away, he happily carried on munching through them without any complaints, which suggests this is very much a me problem rather than a problem with the sweets themselves.
Sometimes a snack can be perfectly fine and still not be for you, and this was definitely one of those occasions.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀 Grounded Grub
The flavour never got a proper chance because the powdery texture immediately reminded me why I’ve avoided these types of sweets for years. If you enjoy classic chalky sweets, your experience will probably be far more positive than mine.
📖 Official Description
A nostalgic Hungarian sweet, Pehelycukor Málna is known for its light, airy and flaky texture. This raspberry-flavoured sugar confection combines a delicate crunch with a melt-in-the-mouth quality, dissolving effortlessly as you enjoy its sweet, fruity flavour. Popular for decades, it remains a retro favourite that evokes memories of traditional sweetshops and funfairs, capturing the charm of classic childhood treats.

💭 My Honest Review
This review comes with a slight complication…
I never actually got to try this one.
While I was happily working my way through the Mogyi Crasssh! peanuts, OH quietly helped himself to the Smile Pancake Apricot and, before I knew it, the entire thing had vanished.
When questioned about this suspicious behaviour, his defence was:
“You don’t like apricot.”
A fair point, admittedly, but I still feel I should have at least been offered a courtesy bite in the name of snack journalism.
From his report, the biggest positive was the format itself. Rather than being a single pancake, it consisted of two soft pancakes sandwiched together with the apricot filling in the middle, which he seemed genuinely pleased about. The snack disappeared remarkably quickly, which is usually a good sign.
As for me, I was left staring at an empty wrapper and wondering if I’d just been outsmarted by my own snack-testing assistant.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
I can’t personally score the flavour, but based on how quickly OH claimed ownership and polished it off, this one clearly did something right. I may never know whether the apricot filling was any good, but apparently it was good enough that he wasn’t interested in sharing. 😒😂
📖 Official Description
A charming and cheerful fixture in Hungarian lunchboxes, this soft and spongy mini pancake is as delightful to look at as it is to eat. Baked into a playful smiley face, it features a beautifully light, golden pancake filled with rich, sweet apricot jam. It perfectly balances the fluffy texture of the pancake with the fruity sweetness of the filling, creating a fun and comforting snack enjoyed by both children and adults.

💭 My Honest Review
f you’d told me before opening this box that one of my standout sweet treats would involve pistachio, I’d have laughed and immediately assumed you had the wrong person.
Both OH and I usually steer well clear of pistachio-flavoured snacks. It’s never been a flavour either of us actively seeks out, so this was one we approached with fairly low expectations.
To our surprise, it turned out to be genuinely enjoyable.
The thing that made it work was the caramel. Rather than letting the pistachio flavour completely take over, the sweet, creamy caramel balanced everything beautifully and made the whole bar feel much more approachable. The pistachio was definitely there, but it wasn’t overpowering or overly nutty.
It ended up being one of those snacks that quietly wins you over. Neither of us expected much from it, yet by the end we were both happily finishing our portions and admitting we’d misjudged it.
Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones you’d never have picked for yourself.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A pleasant surprise that completely changed my opinion of a flavour I usually avoid. The caramel and pistachio worked far better together than I expected, creating a balanced and genuinely tasty treat I’d happily eat again if it appeared in another box.
📖 Official Description
A truly indulgent treat, this chocolate bar combines a smooth pistachio cream filling with a delicate layer of golden caramel, all coated in rich dark chocolate. The velvety, nutty centre creates a luxurious base, while the caramel adds a subtle sweetness that perfectly complements the pistachio flavour. Finished with a crisp chocolate shell, each bite delivers a satisfying balance of creamy, chewy and crunchy textures.

💭 My Honest Review
This is where I have to admit that I can’t offer much of a personal taste review because OH got to this one while I was at work and, by the time I got home, there wasn’t any left for me to investigate.
His official verdict was simply:
“It was okay.”
Not exactly the most detailed tasting notes ever recorded.
What he did have plenty to say about was the condition of the chocolate bar itself. By the time he opened it, the bar had apparently suffered quite the journey. The chocolate was heavily smashed, and much of the blackcurrant filling had squished out inside the wrapper.
Whether that happened somewhere between Hungary and the UK, or because the bar spent its journey being jostled around next to several cans in the box, we’ll probably never know. It certainly looked like it had been through a few things before reaching our kitchen.
To be fair, that’s not really a criticism of the snack itself. Shipping delicate filled chocolate bars across multiple countries is always going to be a bit of a gamble. Even so, it’s difficult to fully judge a product when it’s arrived looking a little battle-worn.
Based on OH’s rather unenthusiastic “it was okay” review and the slightly unfortunate condition it arrived in, this one didn’t exactly leave a lasting impression.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀 Mild Mission
A perfectly decent chocolate bar, but neither the flavour nor the overall experience stood out enough for us to seek it out again. The blackcurrant filling was an interesting idea, but this one ended up feeling more forgettable than memorable. 🍫🫐
📖 Official Description
A deliciously fruity twist on classic milk chocolate from Tibi, one of Hungary’s most beloved chocolate brands. Smooth milk chocolate surrounds a luscious blackcurrant cream filling, creating a perfectly balanced sweet-and-tangy flavour. The rich, creamy chocolate melts effortlessly around the vibrant berry centre, delivering bursts of blackcurrant flavour with a subtle tart finish.

💭 My Honest Review
The easiest way to describe these is as a Hungarian take on a Jaffa Cake… except swap the orange filling for cherry.
The combination of soft sponge, fruity filling, and chocolate coating worked well together, and I can absolutely see why these are a popular snack. The cherry flavour was pleasant without being overly sweet, and the chocolate added a nice balance.
Unfortunately, this one ran into a very specific Kimberley problem: I’m just not a huge fan of jelly-filled treats. It doesn’t matter whether it’s cherry, orange, strawberry, or raspberry — the jelly centre is usually the part I enjoy the least.

That’s not a criticism of the snack itself, more a reflection of my own preferences. In fact, OH was more than happy to step in and finish the rest of the pack, which is becoming a recurring theme throughout this box.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀 Mild Mission
A perfectly nice snack and a fun twist on a classic Jaffa Cake, but the jelly centre means it isn’t something I’d actively reach for again.
📖 Official Description
A delightful Hungarian favourite, these soft sponge cake rounds are filled with a layer of fruity sour cherry jelly and finished with a smooth chocolate coating. Light and airy in texture, the sponge perfectly complements the gently tangy sweetness of the cherry centre, while the chocolate adds a rich, indulgent finish. The combination of soft sponge, fruity filling and crisp chocolate has made them a beloved treat for generations.

💭 My Honest Review
This was one of those snacks that felt a little bit special from the very first bite.
The chocolate itself tasted surprisingly rich and indulgent, and my immediate thought was that it felt far more luxurious than your average chocolate bar. It had that sort of grown-up chocolate flavour that makes you slow down and actually enjoy it rather than absent-mindedly eating the whole thing in five minutes.
One thing that did confuse me slightly was the description calling it milk chocolate. To my taste buds, it actually came across much closer to a dark chocolate bar. Whether that’s because Hungarian chocolate is less sweet than what I’m used to here in the UK, or simply because my chocolate preferences are heavily influenced by years of eating very sweet British chocolate, I’m not entirely sure.
Either way, I really enjoyed it.
The hazelnuts added a lovely crunch and balanced the richness of the chocolate nicely. It felt simple, but in a way that worked perfectly. No gimmicks, no strange flavour combinations—just a really satisfying chocolate-and-nut combination done well.
This was definitely one of the snacks I found myself reaching for “just one more piece” of.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight
A simple combination done exceptionally well. Rich chocolate, crunchy hazelnuts, and a flavour that felt surprisingly luxurious. I’d happily eat this again and wouldn’t think twice about picking up another bar.
📖 Official Description
A true Hungarian classic, this chocolate bar combines smooth milk chocolate with a luscious hazelnut cream filling and whole roasted hazelnuts. The creamy, nutty centre is perfectly complemented by the satisfying crunch of the hazelnuts, creating a rich and indulgent chocolate experience. Its enduring popularity has made it a staple of Hungary’s confectionery scene.

💭 My Honest Review
This was one of the biggest surprises in the entire box.
At first glance, both OH and I assumed they were going to be something similar to Rainbow Drops. They have that same colourful, crunchy appearance that instantly makes you think you’re about to bite into something light and sweet.
What we weren’t expecting was the peanut hiding inside.
The combination of the crunchy sugar coating and the roasted peanut centre worked surprisingly well, creating a flavour that immediately reminded me of peanut brittle. There was a lovely balance between sweet and nutty, and each piece had a satisfying crunch that made it very easy to keep reaching back into the bag for “just one more.”

These are exactly the sort of snacks I love finding in subscription boxes — something I would never have picked up myself but ended up genuinely enjoying.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀🚀 Lunar Delight
A delicious surprise. The peanut centre completely changed my expectations, and the peanut brittle-like flavour kept me coming back for more.
📖 Official Description
A legendary Hungarian classic, these iconic sweets literally translate to “Danube Pebbles”, named after their uniquely bumpy, pebble-like shape. Each piece features a whole roasted peanut coated in a crisp, colourful sugar shell. Delightfully crunchy with a rich nutty sweetness, they deliver a perfectly balanced bite that has made them a beloved favourite across generations.

💭 My Honest Review
This was another snack that pleasantly surprised me.
I split the bar in half with OH because, if I’m being honest, fudge isn’t usually something I get excited about. I often find it a little too rich or overly sweet, especially when caramel is involved.
Thankfully, this one managed to avoid both of those pitfalls.
The texture was soft and creamy without being sickly, and the caramel flavour was much more balanced than I expected. It added sweetness and richness without completely taking over, which made the whole bar much easier to enjoy.
While it didn’t immediately shoot to the top of my favourites list, it was definitely one of those snacks that proved first impressions wrong. I went into it expecting to take a couple of bites and move on, but ended up finishing my half quite happily.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A tasty surprise. The caramel flavour was well balanced, and even as someone who isn’t usually a huge fudge fan, I found myself enjoying this one.
📖 Official Description
Translating to “Mad Cow” in English, this playful Hungarian treat combines rich, buttery caramel with the distinctive taste of authentic Parajd salt. Its smooth, melt-in-the-mouth texture creates the perfect balance of sweet and savoury flavours, while the gentle saltiness enhances the creamy caramel notes. Fun, nostalgic and full of character, it remains a popular sweet enjoyed by both children and adults.

💭 My Honest Review
Sometimes the simplest snacks end up being the most enjoyable.
The Kojak Classic Lollipop doesn’t try to be flashy or reinvent the wheel. It’s a straightforward lollipop with a surprise centre, and honestly, there’s something quite charming about that.
Because there was only one in the box, OH and I ended up sharing it, taking turns having a few tastes before passing it back and forth. It felt surprisingly nostalgic, even though neither of us had tried one before. I could easily imagine this being the sort of sweet that children would spend their pocket money on and beg their parents to buy at the checkout.
The hard candy shell lasted a decent amount of time before revealing the centre, which made it feel a little more exciting than your average lollipop. There’s a reason simple sweets like this have stood the test of time.
While it wasn’t necessarily the most memorable item in the box, it was enjoyable, easy to eat, and delivered exactly what it promised.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A simple idea executed well. It may not have been the most exciting snack in the box, but I can absolutely see why it would become a childhood favourite. Sometimes classic sweets are classics for a reason. 🍭✨
📖 Official Description
A legendary retro favourite in Hungary, this iconic lollipop has been enjoyed for generations thanks to its simple yet distinctive flavour. It features a sweet, vanilla-flavoured hard candy coated in a thin layer of rich chocolate, creating a nostalgic combination of creamy sweetness and satisfying cocoa flavour. Instantly recognisable and deeply nostalgic, it remains one of Hungary’s most beloved classic sweets.

Out of all the sweet treats in the box, Dunakavics was the one that surprised me the most and kept me reaching back for another handful. What initially looked like a simple colourful candy turned out to have a delicious peanut centre that reminded me of peanut brittle, creating the perfect balance of sweet, crunchy, and nutty. While several sweets were enjoyable, this was the one that stood out from the crowd and felt genuinely memorable long after the taste test was over.
🥤 Drinks
The drinks category was small but surprisingly memorable, proving that even flavours I wouldn’t normally choose can occasionally win me over.

💭 My Honest Review
I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting much from this one.
Elderflower is one of those flavours that I usually approach with caution. Sometimes it can be a little too floral for my taste, and I often find myself wishing there was something else to balance it out.
Thankfully, that’s exactly what happened here.
The addition of lemon gave the drink a much fresher, brighter flavour and stopped the elderflower from becoming overpowering. It still had that distinctive floral taste, but the citrus notes helped keep everything light and refreshing. It felt much more like a summer drink than I was expecting.
Would it become my new favourite fizzy drink? Probably not. But it was a pleasant surprise and definitely more enjoyable than I anticipated when I first cracked open the can.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A refreshing surprise. The elderflower and lemon combination worked really well together, making this a much more enjoyable drink than I expected.
📖 Official Description
A refreshing staple of Hungarian soft drink culture, this crisp soda celebrates one of the country’s most beloved traditional flavours. It captures the light, floral and subtly sweet character of elderflower, balanced with a lively sparkling fizz. Wonderfully aromatic and refreshing, it is a nostalgic favourite that is especially popular as a cooling drink on hot summer days.

💭 My Honest Review
This one immediately reminded me of something we already have here in the UK.
The closest comparison I could make is white grape Shloer — sweet, fruity, refreshing, and very easy to drink. (And yes, that’s the correct spelling!) The difference is that Traubisoda is noticeably fizzier, giving it a bit more of a sparkling soft drink feel rather than a celebratory sparkling juice.
I wasn’t expecting much from it at first, but I found myself constantly going back for another sip. Every time I put the can down, a few minutes later I’d be reaching for it again without really thinking about it.
The white grape flavour was pleasant without being overpowering, and the extra fizz kept it feeling light and refreshing rather than overly sweet. It’s one of those drinks that’s incredibly easy to finish.
Sometimes the simplest products are the ones that surprise you the most, and Traubisoda quietly became one of the more memorable discoveries in the box.
🚀 My Verdict
🚀🚀🚀 Orbiting Flavour
A refreshing, easy-drinking fizzy grape soda that reminded me of white grape Shloer with extra sparkle. Not the most adventurous item in the box, but definitely one I happily kept sipping throughout the taste test. 🍇🥤

🥤 Drink Champion
🏆 Winner – Márka Juicy Soda Bodza
I genuinely surprised myself with this one. As someone who doesn’t usually gravitate towards elderflower drinks, I expected this to be an easy pass. Instead, the addition of lemon balanced the floral flavour beautifully, creating a refreshing drink that was far more enjoyable than I anticipated. Sometimes the biggest winners are the ones you never see coming.

💭 Final Thoughts
Before even finishing all of the snacks, I can already say that SnackVerse has impressed me.
The mystery element is what initially pulled me in, but the educational side is what surprised me most. The booklet transformed what could have been a simple snack box into a mini cultural experience. Instead of just eating random treats, I found myself learning about Hungarian food, traditions, travel destinations, and everyday life.
For somebody who loves mystery boxes, food adventures, and discovering new things from the comfort of home, this feels like a perfect combination.
Will every snack be a winner? Probably not. But honestly, that’s part of the fun. Sometimes the best discoveries come from trying something you’d never normally pick up in a shop.
And if future boxes are as thoughtfully put together as this one, I have a feeling this won’t be my last SnackVerse adventure.
