⭐ The Night Prince – Book Review

📚 Book Details

✨ The Quick Take

A gripping return to the wolf kingdoms that kept me fully invested from start to finish. The tension, political dynamics, and emotional stakes are still strong, and the audiobook narration once again absolutely elevates the story. While I still adore this series, this installment dropped slightly from a five-star read to four stars for me — mostly due to some repetitive descriptions and a character dynamic that didn’t quite land the same way.

Still though… that ending? Brutal cliffhanger energy.

🌙 Story Snapshot (Spoiler-Free)

Following the events of the first book, the fragile balance between the wolf kingdoms begins to fracture even further. Alliances are uncertain, power struggles simmer beneath the surface, and the fate of the kingdom hangs on decisions that could change everything.

Our heroine finds herself caught deeper in the dangerous politics of the wolf world — surrounded by powerful figures whose motives aren’t always clear.

As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, the story builds toward another dramatic ending that leaves the future of the characters — and the kingdom — hanging in the balance.

And yes… it absolutely leaves you desperate for the next book.

📖 My Reading Experience

Still Completely Invested in This Series

First things first: I am still very much obsessed with this series.

The wolf kingdom setting, the politics between packs, and the emotional stakes between the characters make it incredibly addictive to read (or listen to). Lauren Palphreyman does a great job balancing action, romance, and world tension so the story keeps moving.

The first book was a solid five-star read for me, so my expectations going into this one were pretty high.

This time around though, it landed at four stars.

And weirdly, it wasn’t because of anything major.

The Blake vs Callum Debate

Okay… I know the fandom is very loudly on one side here.

Everyone seems to be fan-girling over Blake and ready to throw Callum straight into the bin.

But honestly?

I’m not seeing it.

Blake just didn’t quite click for me the way he clearly does for a lot of readers. I understand why people like him, but the dynamic didn’t pull me in the same way.

Meanwhile…

I’m still very much a Callum girl.

There’s something about his complexity, his tension, and the way his character interacts with the story that I personally find far more compelling. I know he’s controversial, but for me he’s still the character that holds the most intrigue.

So while the internet might be swooning over Blake…

I’ll happily stick with Callum.

The Descriptions Started to Repeat

Fantasy and paranormal books naturally rely heavily on descriptions — especially when it comes to building atmosphere and character presence.

But in this one I did notice a pattern where certain descriptions came up again and again.

Things like:

  • veins in arms
  • tense physical features
  • intense physical presence

And listen… we already know the wolf men are hot.

We really do.

After a while the repeated descriptions started to feel a little unnecessary and slightly pulled me out of the moment rather than adding to it.

It’s not a huge issue, but it’s probably one of the small things that knocked the rating down a star for me.

The Cliffhanger Strikes Again

Just like the first book…

We end on another cliffhanger.

The kind that makes you stare at the audiobook timer thinking there must be another chapter hiding somewhere.

But no.

Just emotional chaos and the painful realisation that we now have to wait for the next book.

And yes — I will absolutely be reading it the second it releases.Impatiently.

🎧 Audiobook Section – Narrators

Narrators: Zara Hampton-Brown, Shane East & Sean Masters

Once again, the audiobook performances were absolutely phenomenal.

Honestly? Oscar-worthy levels of storytelling.

The narrators don’t just read the story — they perform it. You can hear the emotions, the tension, the subtle shifts in character relationships. It makes the entire experience feel cinematic.

A special mention for Shane East, who is rapidly becoming one of my favourite audiobook narrators. His voice just carries so much depth and presence.

And while I might not personally be sold on Blake as a character…

The addition of Sean Masters as Blake’s voice was an excellent choice.

Because the character might not win me over…

…but that voice?

Yeah.

I’d melt.

🤍 Would I Recommend It?

Yes — especially if you loved the first book.

This sequel expands the world, deepens the character tensions, and raises the stakes for what’s coming next in the series.

Just be ready for another cliffhanger ending.

🌙 Final Thoughts + Come Chat

Even though this one dropped slightly to four stars for me, I’m still fully invested in the story and the characters.

The world of the wolf kingdoms is addictive, the emotional tension keeps pulling you forward, and the audiobook performances make the experience even stronger.

Now the only problem? Waiting for the next book.
