A cosy December tradition filled with laughter, low-effort chaos, and a whole lot of heart.
Every December, our home shifts into festive mode — twinkling lights, cinnamon in the air, and somewhere among the wrapping paper and school plays… two cheeky elves quietly take over.
Elvis and Toffee are back for their eleventh year of festive mischief, and somehow, it still feels just as magical.

✨ The Magic Returns
What started as a tiny idea to help channel Christmas excitement has become something far bigger than I ever expected.
Every morning in December begins the same way:
Footsteps down the stairs.
A pause.
Then the hunt.
And even now — even when they’re older, even when they “know” — the spark is still there.
That’s the magic.
🎁 A Little Elf History
It all began in 2014, when my eldest was just two years old. Christmas can be overwhelming for little ones — especially when routines shift and everything feels bigger, louder, brighter.
I wanted something small. Something playful. Something that felt grounding rather than overstimulating.
That’s when Elvis arrived — named after my Grandad’s favourite singer, Elvis Presley. It felt special. Intentional. A little piece of family history woven into something new.
And honestly? That little elf worked wonders.
By 2019, it only felt fair that my youngest needed his own partner in festive crime. Enter Toffee — the mischievous sidekick.
Now, here we are in 2025, eleven whole years into this tradition.
The boys are older. The mornings are less chaotic. But they still look.
They still smile.
And that tells me everything.

🧠 Creative Blocks & “Elf Flu” Years
Let’s be honest — not every December has been Pinterest-perfect.
There have absolutely been years when the elves “came down with Elf Flu.” When work was busy. When the creativity tank was empty. When I simply could not be bothered to move them at midnight.
And that’s okay.
Some of our favourite setups have been the simplest ones. No elaborate props. No complicated scenes. Just whatever was already in the house — and a bit of imagination.
This isn’t about perfection.
It’s about presence.

🎄 This Year’s Elf Adventure (2025)
This December, I’m doing something a little special — a month-long Elf mini-series here on the blog.
From 1st to 24th December, I’ll be sharing daily mini posts including:
- What Elvis & Toffee got up to
- Behind-the-scenes glimpses (midnight tape-in-hair chaos included)
- Easy, low-budget ways to recreate the ideas at home
Because elf fun doesn’t need to cost a fortune. It just needs a spark.
And maybe a spare toilet roll tube or two.
✨ 24 Days. 24 Tiny Memories.
Here’s where you can follow along with Elvis & Toffee’s Christmas Countdown:
⭐ Behind the Magic
Each daily post will include:
- Behind the Scenes: what it really looked like setting it up
- Recreate It at Home: simple swaps using things you already own
- Budget Elf Hacks: small effort, big smiles
This series isn’t about aesthetic perfection.
It’s about accessible magic.
❤️ The Real Reason Behind the Elves
Elvis and Toffee aren’t just Christmas props.
They’ve become part of our family rhythm. A reason to pause in the middle of December’s chaos. A shared inside joke. A tiny thread of continuity as the years move forward.
Even as the boys grow older and start questioning everything, they still wake up curious.
And that’s what stays with me.
The heart of Christmas isn’t about believing in elves.
It’s about believing in small traditions that stitch families together year after year.
