⭐ Twisted Love – Book Review

📚 Book Details

✨ The Quick Take

A broody, emotionally guarded hero meets sunshine energy in this addictive, drama-filled romance that delivers tension, longing, and just enough angst to keep you hooked. Not as dark as it teases—but still very binge-worthy.

🖤 Story Snapshot (Spoiler-Free)

Ava Chen is sunshine in human form—creative, kind, and trying to rebuild her life after a traumatic past. Enter Alex Volkov: her brother’s best friend, a cold, hyper-controlled billionaire with a past of his own and zero interest in emotional attachments.

When he’s tasked with looking out for Ava while her brother is away, proximity does what proximity does best… and suddenly the tension is loud. What follows is a slow-burn(ish), forbidden-leaning romance packed with secrets, emotional walls, and a whole lot of push-pull energy.

💭 My Reading Experience

🔁 Re-reading Magic

I first read Twisted Love a few years ago (pre-Goodreads era 🙈) in paperback and absolutely loved it. Coming back through the audiobook felt like slipping into a story I already knew—but still somehow got swept up in.

Their chemistry? Still chef’s kiss.
The push-pull dynamic had me hooked all over again, and the emotional payoff still hit just right. There’s something about revisiting a story and realising it still works on you… yeah, this one passed the test.

🖤 The Push-Pull Dynamic (aka my weakness)

Alex and Ava thrive on tension. He’s guarded, controlled, emotionally locked down. She’s open, warm, and persistent in a quiet, steady way.

And that contrast? Delicious.

It’s not just opposites attract—it’s opposites challenge each other to grow, which makes the romance feel more layered than just surface-level chemistry.

🔥 About That “Dark Side”…

Okay sooo… we need to talk about this.

Alex spends a lot of time warning Ava about his “dark side”—even during intimate moments. Naturally, I went in expecting something a little darker in the spice department.

But honestly?
That dark side never makes a guest appearance.

Given the level of foreshadowing, I half expected darker kinks or even light BDSM vibes, but the spice stays firmly in vanilla-but-steamy territory.

Not a bad thing at all—but it does feel slightly mismatched with how much it’s hyped up.

📖 Still Addictive

Even with that tiny letdown, this book is still so easy to binge.

  • The pacing keeps things moving
  • The emotional tension keeps you invested
  • The drama? Oh, it delivers

It’s one of those books where you tell yourself “just one more chapter”… and suddenly you’re deep into the story again.

Revisiting it in audio completely reignited my excitement for the rest of the series.
Honestly? Bring on the chaos.

🎧 Audiobook Section – Narrators

Narrators: Cindy Kay & Aiden Snow

I was so curious how the audiobook would hold up.
Spoiler: still loved it.

  • Cindy Kay brought softness and emotion to Ava that made her feel grounded and genuine.
  • Aiden Snow absolutely nailed Alex’s cool, controlled demeanor.

The dual narration worked beautifully to highlight their individual personalities and internal conflicts—especially Alex’s razor-sharp composure vs. Ava’s vulnerable strength.

It made falling back into their world way too easy.

💌 Would I Recommend It?

Yes—especially if you love:

  • Grumpy x sunshine dynamics
  • Protective, emotionally unavailable men (we listen, we don’t judge 👀)
  • Addictive romance series starters
  • Drama with a side of healing

If you’re expecting super dark spice though, just go in with adjusted expectations.

🖤 Final Thoughts & Come Chat

Twisted Love might not fully lean into the darkness it teases, but what it does deliver is a compelling, emotional, and seriously addictive romance that still holds up on a re-read.

It’s one of those stories that reminds you why you fell into romance books in the first place—messy feelings, intense chemistry, and characters you just want to see figure it out.

Okay but now I need to know…
Did Alex’s “dark side” live up to your expectations—or were you also like sir… where is it?? 😅
